Paying Respect
Our mom liked things simple and didn’t want a funeral.
To capture the love pouring from people around the world, we created this page in her honor. If you’re looking for ways to pay your respects, we came up with some ideas below.

Marie was diagnosed with leukemia (AML) in January 2024. Through her courage and commitment to heal using various mind, body, and soul therapies, she quickly achieved remission and left the hospital to enjoy a few months at home. Some days were good, some were very tough, as she cared for her husky Niko until he passed away June 9. Despite her resilience, relapse occurred and god had another plan for her. The family deeply appreciates donations to help cover the bills of Marie’s integrative healing journey.

Guylaine and I were first introduced during my honeymoon (December 1997) in Las Vegas, NV. It turned out the honeymoon became a trip for three newly introduced couples plus a single guy (the husbands were highschool chums). We stayed in a motel somewhere off the Las Vegas Strip, near a Taco Bell we both came to dislike.
The wives were checked in into one room, the husbands in another room and off they went for a Las Vegas night out. Whilst the two Chinese wives went to bed as if the whole arrangement was the most normal honeymoon set up, Guylaine and I were left perplexed and fuming. The two of us ended up perching on a bench outside our bedroom. Both of us were literally smouldering volcanoes ready to erupt. The motel's empty parking lot stared sarcastically back at us. Guylaine puffed away on her cigarettes (she was a smoker then). Furious, I was pretty sure smoke came out from my ears. We found common ground in one another, this was how our friendship began.
Not long after, Guylaine joined her then husband in Hong Kong. I always admire her positive, can-do, attitude. With a computer science degree in hand, she applied her training running life using state of the art gadgets. Their house was always beautifully put together, uncluttered, practical and always spotless. Her good looking babies were always neat and appropriately dressed for the occasion. She made sure they were well aware of the set boundaries. Guylaine taught me how to live life smartly, joyfully and beautifully. She taught me how to own a credit card and manage it responsibly. With her, I came to enjoy coffee time, and shared many mouth watering cake selections.
Being a member of the Pacific Club at Ocean Terminal Harbour View, she invited me to enjoy the spa facility. Like curious school girls we explored and tried everything accessible to us. Once the children were put to bed (and under the watchful eyes of our amahs), we would go to dinner together and neatly split the bill down the middle so we could enjoy more time together. She was always fun to be with, we had similar likes and dislikes. We could laugh our heads off and be scandalized about similar things. It was a wonderfully innocent and simple time.
Thank you for the good time Guylaine, I will forever miss you (I often caught myself from thinking of calling/sharing stories with you).
Chandra

I was honored to have met you a few times, even if it was only for a short while. Being a part of this year's New Year's Eve celebration at the Edition was a memory I will cherish forever. I did not know then that it would be our last. No one knew. I am so glad I got to met the woman who raise one of the strongest and most beautiful humans , inside and out , I know on this planet. Because of that, I feel it is my duty, as a friend+ sister to stand by her side through all of life's ups and downs because we are friends for life.
Sending so much love and my deepest condolences to all of Marie’s Family and friends. Rest in Peace, M.
With Love , AnnaMaria 🌹
Beautiful bouquet and card from Robert & family. She loved those colors.
It was a pleasure to get to know you. You made a beautiful child that embodies your warrior spirit. You have brought 3 beautiful dragon children into this world and have showed them what love is the best that you knew. I remember your eyes always had a little laughter ana dance in them. You were curious and playful and though the hurt of men scared your heart they never stained your soul. Your beautiful warrior moon daughter stayed by your side until your last breath to chaperon you to the next world where you will be waiting for her all in white with open arms when her time has come. But she has much to do here: We need her spirit here. I have watched her grow from the shooting star with an icy exterior to this blossoming lotus flower beautiful and majestic as the wings of a butterfly. I know you are proud of your children. Your story wasn’t always easy, but life is a story worth being part of and what you leave behind will affect her forever. Thank you for your gifts. Now that Mother Earth reclaimed your body and God reclaimed your soul, we rejoice in knowing that your light is watching over us. Watch your daughter, watch her make you proud. Her spirit is the next chapter.
Amen. – Your friend in heaven and earths, Eric Zareski

There really are no words to express the sadness Doug and I feel. I don’t remember a time when Marie was not smiling, shining like a bright star.
I remember all the chats we had, about everything, from aliens to politics and of course about Roger, Dennis, Jonathan, Jennifer, Niko and Moka.
We hope you can take comfort on knowing that Marie and Niko are together again, going out for long walks. You will be missed my dear Marie, we love you.

My earliest memories are of when you and Eric would take me to visit your family in Quebec, riding in that old brown VW Rabbit. Thank you for the conversations we've had over the years and always having your home open when any of us would visit. Once family, always family, that never changes-you will be missed.

Hello,
I just wanted to send my condolences on the death of Marie. In the time I knew her and your family, it is clear that she was quite strong woman and very well loved. I am sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rodrigo (Hematologist at Vancouver General Hospital)
I find myself thinking of Marie all the time. It’s a strange thought that I’m here yet she’s not…it feels like just yesterday I saw you the last time as we lunched at the golf course and I hugged you at parting until the next time we’d meet…
only we did not. And I miss you. I miss your smile and your stories you’d tell, your strength, and your friendship. Thank you Roger and Marie for being great friends who even took time and visited us when we had briefly moved away.
We are here for you Roger and look forwards to connecting soon when tears don’t come quite as easily, yet I’m sure they still will….and it’s ok.
Marie was a special light and that light will not be extinguished from our lives. She left us better for having known her and I’m grateful always to call her someone special in my small circle.
We will keep her memory alive and well Roger and send you a big hug until we soon reconnect
Lots of love from Amber and Colin
We had so much fun when you came to LA in July 2022. We always had fun when you visited and looking back it was not nearly enough. This is the day we made tacos totally from scratch with all the fixings… I was excited to show you how easy it was (Pandemic hobby = learning to make tacos with all the legit ingredients)..
